Ask The Experts: Grooming
Our grooming expert, Stephen Thomas answers a delicate question about hair removal cream and down below bits!
Question: Can you suggest a hair removal cream / wax for removal of
pubic hair? Thanks
Answer: Hair removal creams are acid-based and my advice to you would be to steer well clear from this hair removal method, particularly in the areas you are thinking of treating.
Hair removal creams work by melting the hair from the surface; they often burn the skin because people tend to leave them on for too long. Or they leave them on not long enough and when they see that all of the hair has not melted away as it says it will on the box, they tend to reapply the cream.
This will automatically burn your skin on reapplication because the first application also breaks down skin cells. Pubic hair as you know has a different density to other body hair, it is wiry, hard and does not contain pores and because of this, hair removal creams are not suitable, particularly on men.
Results for this treatment tend to last only a few days. Nair is the removal cream most used and this is available widely in pharmacys and supermarkets.
Waxing is definitely a far more superior treatment. In waxing the product is applied thinly to the area and removed rapidly with a special material paper. The wax is set to body temperature of 37 degrees which relaxes the muscle (Erector Pili) around the hair and allows the hair, including the root to be extracted.
The treatment can be uncomfortable, varying from parson to person, but over time it can become less and less so because your body and mind build up a pain tolerance.
In saying that, many of my clients get it done because it last so long, sometimes up to six weeks, making it the longest lasting result of all the hair removal techniques.
You are best off to seek this treatment on a professional level because the treatment is very specialist. Should you need them, my contact details are available below.
