An Afternoon of Gay filums
I had a most eye opening and thought
provoking afternoon at the cinema when I went to see the "Boy's Shorts" collection of short films. Do you ever wonder, dear reader,
where all the gays go when they outgrow, not even the g, but also the
d? I often wonder and worry about this lack of visibility of more
mature gays but they were out in force in what was a very age
representative crowd. It is refreshing to have cultural scene
activities that don't (necessarily) involve alcohol. Heres to many more of them to match impecable work already done by events like the Gay Theatre Festival and GAZE. Bravo to all
involved and I look forward to next years festival.
Bellow I have my reaction and rating
for each of the shorts shown. Comments from those who've also seen
them are most welcome.
The Island
Some very North American day dreaming
about the idea of making all gays live on an island. 3/5
Cowboy
A Saxon thriller describing relations
between a Business man and farmhand who remains topless for most of
the film. Hot hot hot! 4/5
Every other weekend
This short poses some interesting
questions about gay parenting post relationship breakdown even if the
acting is occasionally a little hammy. 3/5
Heiko
A most disturbing Lusophone morality
play warning of the dangers of drugs. 1/5
Wrestling
A rather dull Nordic piece on
isolationism and Icelandic wrestling. 2/5
Dish
A coming of age story about an oh-so
cute 15 year old latino in Los Angelus with near perfect hair. 3/5
