The Scene Bitch

Anto has been a bit of a fixture on the Dublin Gay scene for more years than he can care or dare to remember. He's been DJ-ing for the past few of years and can regularly be found spinning tunes, helping out with shows or propping up the bar in The George. Also known to frequent other gay venues where alcohol is served! His blog will be a place for all things scene related. Going's on, ups and downs, news and maybe even some bits and pieces on music.

It's WAR

No not that kind of war, the other kind. The WAR that's taking Spy by storm every Friday night.

Admittedly I'm a little late to this party as WAR has been running at Spy for some time now and I only got round to paying it a visit two weeks ago. But boy did it still feel fresh, like it had only launched that week. And this the Friday of Electric Weekend when it seems that every gay in Dublin had headed to Stradbally for a weekend of mayhem. WAR still had many troops ready and willing to stand shoulder-to-shoulder; at the bar.

I've been trying to think of how I'd describe it. The best analogy I've come to is that it's like something out of Skins. But not in the "crazy-fucked-up-everyone's-out-of-it-on-drugs-and-shagging-like-rabbits" way that Skins is, what I mean is that it's more of the carefree feeling that the partying scenes in Skins evoked. Everyone's having fun, not taking themselves or their surroundings too seriously and just out to enjoy the music, a dance and a few hundred drinks.

While not strictly a "gay night" there's a fairly high turn-out of moxies while straight girls and guys are definitely well represented. Everyone just does their own thing, and so what if boys are kissing boys, girls are kissing girls or even boys are kissing girls. Nobody bats an eyelid.

The music is excellent; completely random but in the best way and it's guaranteed to get you shaking your groove thing and getting your sweat on in the black room.

If you're looking for something different, cool, a little out there but definitely 100% fun then as Michael Jackson would say; "This is it."

WAR; the right to bare arms, holding drinks!
