Boy George Biopic

A new BBC drama will explore the explosive life and times of iconic gay popstar, Boy George.

The film, to co-star Gavin and Stacy actor Matt Horne, will feature the musician's early life right up to his prime days in the 1980’s.

Horne is to play Culture Club’s drummer Jon Moss, who was Boy George's lover in the early days of the band. The relatively unknown actor, Douglas Booth will play the part of Boy George.

The drama, titled Worried About The Boy, will follow the singers journey from cloakroom attendant to ‘80s cultural icon, including the development of his own personal style, his romantic relationships and how he met his Culture Club bandmates.

The biopic was penned by Hotel Babylon writer Tony Basgallop, and will also star Hustle actor, Marc Warren and League of Gentleman star, Mark Gatiss.

Ben Stephenson, the controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "Worried About The Boy will be an evocative and visually enticing drama about one of our most iconic British pop stars. With its mix of music, fashion and youth, it rounds off our trio of dramas for BBC Two's Eighties season perfectly."

The series will also include The Royal Wedding, and an adaptation of Martin Amis' Money, starring Nick Frost.
