JADED

From Popbitch today: "Perhaps everyone involved in this sordid affair - editors, PRs, readers - should have a look at the cover of OK! this week and see just how low we've sunk. A photo of Jade's five-year old son crying about his dying mother being used to sell magazines."

It's like being forced to watch a car-crash - even if you don't buy the tabloids, or OK! mag, there's no getting away from seeing a young woman's painful death and the grief of her family being exploited for other people's gain. While Jade may be making money for her son's trustfunds, other people are creaming it big from her demise. And she is loosing all dignity.

When she's gone, what will they do? What new lows will they sink to?

Jade is only famous because she's an idiot, and that's the sad reality with our society today. She was on our screens far too frequently for my liking (watching a monkey bash nuts with a rock had more intellectual stimulation to be honest), so I'm sorry, but I'd just wish she's hurry up and die already. You just can't get away from this woman hocking her death for a few pennies... please, woman, intelligence has sadly passed you by in this life, but at least get some shred of dignity before you leave this world!

I feel sorry for Jade but I have to admit that this has become quite excessive as well from a media perspective.

Euro Witch

Being a little bit away from the glare of the British/Irish media here in Spain, I didn't realise quite how ill Jade is. It's a very sad situation. Maybe too idealistically all we can hope for now is a miracle. On every front.

Queer Duck

Anyone who buys into watching Jade die on the front page of OK magazine can only be compared to the crowds that came to see witches and homosexuals being hung, drawn and quartered in the middle ages. She's dying for the baying crowds. Pass the vomit bucket.

I think you are all being too hysterical. Look at the facts. Jade Goody does not know anything other than public exposure. Since she came of age, her life has been lived totally in the public eye. Why should she do any different now that she is dying? Should she go somewhere and curl up away from what she knows and, quite obviously needs? Or should she die on her own terms? Why are we all so frightened and disgusted about watching someone die? Is it tapping into our own fears to deeply?

Whatever Jade's motives for her public illness, it certainly has done much to increase awareness of cervical cancer - quite pertinent in this country given the lack of funding for the vaccination scheme. It's a sad story and although Jade has been a bit idiotic at times, I always sense that she was very honest and I find her sudden demise sad.

Speaking of the media and being 'jaded', I wonder how many people are 'jaded' with the constant whingeing by gay rights groups about their lack of rights, gay marriage, discrimination and whatever else they choose to focus on? I wonder if Jade was gay and dying from AIDS, would Brian's article have been different, not to mention the ensuing posts?
