The morning after...
The first thing I must say is
congratulations to Niamh Kavanagh. She did well to make it through
the tougher of the two semis. All of the Irish here have a sense of
relief about them.
One cannot say the same of the
Swedes however, who, given the headlines in Sweden's morning papers,
are currently gearing up to invade Norway. «NEEEEJ!» (NOOO!)
screams the tabloid Expressen. Others talk of «Sverige i
sjokk»(Sweden in shock) and «Fiasko i Oslo». It is, afterall, the
first final Sweden shall sit out since 1976 and quiet a loss to the
contest I feel. I always said the song was quiet average and that
there were better songs in this years Melodifestivalen, but the fact
that arguably Eurovision's most enthusiastic member is on the subs
bench for Saturday is a bit sad. Anyway, never mind the prospect of
the first mobilisation of Swedish armed forces for centuries here's
hoping they don't do something really rash next year and pull out of
Eurovision!
Oh and one more thing... how the
hell did the Ukraine sneek through? No-one saw that screamy affair in
the final.
Moving on we have our running
order for Saturday with last night's qualifiers in bold:
I hope this draw will 1) Kill of
the bulk of support for that very average and very over-rated song
from Azerbaijan and 2) Give Germany, Romania and Portugal decent top
10 placings.
