So the UK Labour Party (which oversaw the introduction of civil partnerships there) needed the support of Iris Robinson's DUP to get its terror suspect extension to 42 days passed. Politics sure makes for some strange bedfellows, as strange as Mrs Robinson's ideas about Christianity. Given that the government now seems reliant on regional parties when it comes to Commons' votes, she can be confident that an insignificant peccadillo like incitement to hatred won't bother New Old Labour too much. When the North's new incitement to hatred legislation reaches the table, the reactionary DUP will voice its traditional reservations; only now the UK government will listen to them. A Jackie Healy-Rae effect, if you will.
