Nail Bitten Blues

Do you have nail biting issues? Our Grooming Expert, Stephen Thomas gets to grips with disguising your little habit.

Q: As a male, what can i do to disguise my bitten nails?

A: There is no real way to disguise bitten nails (Chronic Onychophagia). This is a problem both male and female biters have in common, they would do anything to disguise their bitten nails, even curling their fingers when holding a glass of wine. Bitten nails can be torturous and very embarrassing for them at social occasions.

Women can have glamorous extensions applied with acrylic or UV Gel, but I don't know of many men who would brave that procedure. I don't know which condition would be more embarrassing for a guy, bitten nails or blinging nails!

The best remedy is to stop biting. This can be very difficult, and I understand, but a course of manicures would change your mind by witnessing for yourself the progressive work on them to make your nails appear in better condition and eventually curing the habit.

But like quitting cigarrettes, it also needs a lot of will power. A good Manicurist will also give you information to make you more aware of other painful dangers, including fungal infections and whitlows on the nail and fingers, which can be caused by biting.
