Lesbian Love For Upstairs Downstairs
A second outing for new version of period drama, Upstairs Downstairs, is to feature a lesbian couple.
BBC's rival to ITV's hugely successful Downton Abbey is to up its stakes by introducing a lesbian love story.
Dr Blanche Mottershead, the younger sister of Lady Holland (the former matriarch of the family) and her love interest of novelist Lady Portia Alresford will be played by former ER star Alex Kingston (pictured right) and Silent Witness actress, Emilia Fox.
According to the Daily Express, writer Heidi Thomas said: "The pair certainly bring a whiff of scandal. They've been living abroad and now arrive in London. They try to be covert about their life.
"The series is set in 1938, where life was far less sexualised. When it gets exposed, though, they find a surprising ally."
Upstairs Downstairs will air on BBC1 next month
