Stage Fright

How do you prevent getting spots after wearing make-up on stage? Our Grooming Expert, Stephen Thomas dishes out some advice.

Q: I’m in a local drama group and have to wear pan stick on stage. I find that afterwards I get spots. Is there anything I can use to prevent this?

A: Pan stick is thick and heavy on the skin and sometimes difficult to remove. Your best bet is to use plenty of oil-based moisturiser before you apply the pan stick. This will create a barrier on the skin and stop the pan stick from sinking into the pores.

The biggest emphasis should be placed when you are cleaning your skin. Using a heavy creamy cleanser, work into the skin as if you are washing your face, remove the cleanser with damp cotton wool, repeat this process until your the cotton wool appears clean

Then I suggest using a foaming cleanser to rigorously rinse out the pores; use warm water to wash, cold water to rinse. Cold water will close up the pores. Never use baby wipes; they can cause spots because they don't clean the skins pores out.

Following these steps you should see a reduction in those spots!
