Larry Johnson Sr Doesn't Defend Son's Comments

The NFL star’s father said he was shocked and deeply angered by his son’s gay slurs.

Larry Johnson made a number of offensive comments recently over the space of a few days. The first noted case was when Johnson was trying to brush off reporters and used a slur referring to gays.

He then used that same phrase on twitter when conversing with one of his followers. As if he hadn’t dug himself a deep enough hole, Johnson repeated the act the following day when trying to shake off reporters again and then posted demeaning comments about Coach Todd Haley, questioning his authority.

Johnson apologised on Tuesday but the team asked him to miss training and avoid any team activities until the remarks had been investigated thoroughly. Missing the upcoming game will cost the player a staggering $213,000.

When discussing the issue, Johnson’s father was quick to explain that he did not condone his son’s actions, stating: "That's just not who we are and not what we believe. It's not how he was raised”.

He went on to say that when Johnson was growing up, such remarks were "just not tolerated".

"It's tough for me as a father".
