Objectors to Noel's Funeral

There is nothing quite as disgusting as hate filled people who disguise themselves as Christians. The son of my recently deceased colleague, Noel Walsh, brought a forum thread to my attention that begins by saying that the celebrant of the mass for Noel’s funeral should be excommunicated for “allowing such an abomination”.

The thread is here: http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/apologia/vpost?id=3105653&highlight=noel+walsh&trail=42

I told David that he should ignore the thread, because it even made me, who should be inured to such hatespeak after hearing it for years, queasy. But I haven’t been able to ignore it. It’s been on my mind ever since.

My uncle, who is a died-in-the-wool Catholic priest, has often told my mother that I am going to hell. Not because I’m gay, but because I practice my homosexuality. Like so many posters on the thread about Noel’s funeral, he believes that I should choose never to have love and intimacy in my life by dint of the fact that I was born gay.

In choosing to express my God-given nature, my uncle and millions of indoctrinated Catholics believe that I am contravening God’s law.

But how can that be possible? Surely if he wanted me to be celibate, God would have made me asexual rather than homosexual. What’s the point in creating people who are exclusively attracted to the same sex and then expecting them not to act on it? Is God really that stupid?

As history has proven time and time again, the people who blindly believe in the ethos of the Catholic Church are indeed like the metaphorical flock. A flock of sheep, willfully ignorant of actual human nature, they follow and make pronouncements that their own God would be ashamed of. They are not following God. They are following men who corrupt the word of God for their own ends. Men who populate the Vatican and dream of all-to-human power.

To get a good idea of what I’m talking about rent the DVD of The Crucible for a damning indictment of the political havoc and hate that religious indoctrination can wreak. And how stupid the whole endeavour is.

The men and women who vented their spleen on the forum thread about Noel should not be hated, as they have chosen to hate. As the deity they claim to love so much said as he was being tortured and crucified by a different, misanthropic and highly political religious regime, 'forgive them Father for they know not what they do'.

Oh my God!! That is horrific! it feels like no matter how thick skinned we are getting there is always something sharp enough to make it through! My thought go out to his partner and his children in this time of loss. James x

It's utterly disgusting, and I like the way you are using Catholicism to argue against the Catholics, Brian. Forgive them Father, indeed.

There's a fair bit of debate on that thread, even though for the most part the comments are homophobic. Having said that, it's nice to see people going on to it and adding a more measured tuppence worth.

Chas says: "Even the devil can quote scripture for his own end" May they all be strung up by the testicles until dead, the c**ts.

I am genuinely appalled by that thread.... are these people even know what they're saying? There's a proven link between religious acceptance and diminished intelligence... and this thread is just another proof. Oh, and I love the line we always hear form the catholics "practising homosexuality". My response is always that I've stopped practising, and am now so good at it that I'm called a "professional homosexual".

This is appaling. Whoever started that thread should be strung up. Grief is so hard to deal with without having thoughtless idiots like that adding to it. I know you prats love to throw quotes from the bible at anyone who dares to question you so try this one on for size 'judge not lest ye be judged' - you honestly think this is what God would want, for you to persecute others in a time of pain and suffering. You are all seriously misgided! Keep your opinions to yourself!
