Chas' Best Revenge Flicks!
3. The Descent.

Starting off as a semi-weepy/chick flick, The Descent quickly amps up the
action when a gang of women (one of whom has recently watched her child die in
an appalling car accident) go ‘spelunking’ or pot-holing, to try cheer their
friend up and re-connect as a group. Once in the cave, they get attacked by
freaky albino cave-dwelling monsters, who chase them around the cave and pick
them off one by one…Almost.
The revenge
aspect comes not from ‘Man (or in this case Woman) vs Monster’ but of course
Man vs Man. Whilst under siege from the monsters the gals have to do some
fucked-up shit to survive, and it comes back to haunt one of them (she totally
deserves it though).
An epic,
must-see revenge flick.
2. Dead Man’s Shoes

Like ‘The Descent’, ‘Dead Mans Shoes’ starts off without really indicating
where the movie will end up. You may think in the first five minutes that
you’re watching some kind of ‘Rain Man’ type thing about acceptance of the
mentally challenged but really it’s a terrifying, incredibly tense tale of some
knackers who fucked with the wrong guy’s brother, and the world of hurt
unleashed upon them by Paddy Considine.
Also a must
see – but be warned: the final scene is extremely upsetting, but is all part of
what makes this bleak endeavour ultimately. Powerful.
1. Lady Vengeance

Chas’ number one revenge (though ultimately it’s vengeance) flick. It opens
with Geum-ma who is released from prison after being convicted of the
kidnapping and murder of a young boy. She didn’t do it though, and sets out to
avenge herself. Both hilarious (the scenes where she makes friends in prison by
bumping off the various bullies are hilarious) but like the best revenge flicks,
the rug is pulled from under the viewers feet at the mid-way point and the real
story begins. And what a story! Geun-ma begins with a view to avenging herself,
but ultimately she realises she is but one of many victims….
See it
immediately!
