Euro Witch

Irreverent yet innocent Irish gay guy living in Madrid. Surviving the 40º heat thanks to my trusty fan, my Imelda Marcos-like collection of flip-flops and ice cold gazpacho. Keeping my beedy eye on all things MARICA in this slightly chaotic but very welcoming city. Welcome to my world!

Second Semi Jitters

I promise you, I wouldn't put myself in Sinead Mulvey's ten-inch stilletos for any money.  Tonight she competes against 18 other "rising stars" for the honour of representing Ireland in this year's Eurovision Song Contest FINAL.  Ireland has had a decidedly ropey euro-decade and does Sinead and her black daisies have what it takes to break the spell?

Ireland finds herself in a semi-final with no allies.  It's us against the world (now reads: the East).  Ukraine, Estonia, Hungary and Poland don't usually vote for us.  Albania, on the other hand, saved our bacon from the dreaded nul points two years ago when they awarded Dervish 5 points.   The new heavy weights Serbia, Azerbaijan and Greece will sail through to the final and let's not forget that Greece is represented by its super sexy, Sakis Rouvas.  He´ll get 100 points just for his biceps alone.  Denmark is being represented by one of our own and the Ronan Keating penned ditty has been very well received in Euro Witch's euro preview party.  Popular with the straights who make up around 95% of the population.  The Ronan Keating wannabe is also quite handsome.

Azerbaiijan's Arash and Aysel

My spies in Moscow have told me that Sinead's first dress rehearsal went very well with excellent vocals and energy.  Let's hope that the skin-tight silver body suit she wore in one of her rehearsals won't see the light of day again... or some of our European neighbours will think they are voting for a silver sausage.

Do you think we might get some sympathy votes?
