The Return of Santigold
The alt-pop vixen unveils new single Disparate Youth
Santigold won over pop fans, music critics and the ears of every person soundtracking ads/TV shows in 2008, with her much-loved debut album. Packed with pop hooks buried in quirky club and indie-rock production it was a slick, impressive first effort.
New material has been slow coming but Santigold kept busy, touring worldwide, having to change her stage name (from Santogold to Santigold) due to a legal dispute and collobrating with everyone from Spank Rock to Christina Aguilera (!).
Her second album Master of My Make Believe is due later this year and a an early teaser track Big Mouth was released last month (a follow up to another new track Go feat Karen O which appeared online in the middle of last year). A clattering, noisy slice of indie-dance it reminded many of her tracks like Creator and Unstoppable.
This week she unveils the official second single Disparate Youth a shimmering synth inflected guitar pop tune with a brooding quality to match it's equally impressive chorus.
It rumbles along nicely with lyrics referencing " a life worth fighting for" giving this an anthemic quality that sits perfectly alongside Santigold's typically brooding vocal. The stuttering hip-hop tinges matched with the guitar lick remniscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Nick Zinner, guitarist for the band worked on this album) wrap this up in a arresting packaging.
This has all the hallmarks of another Santigold smash that will have bloggers buzzing (indeed, it already has) and surely be attached on it's fair share of TV shows (we can just see this over the opening of Gossip Girl episode already) before the year is out.
The single will be released here on the 6th of April with the album Master of My Make Believe due on the 20th of Aprill. Listen to the single below:
