Animal Rights Group Ousted From Mardi Gras

The animal liberation organisation, NSW has been denied a float in next month’s Sydney Mardi Gras because it has been deemed “not queer enough”.

Communications manager for the group Lynda Stoner then changed NSW’s name to Sydney Queers for Animal Rights but was once again rejected.

The group have previously marched with the parade and said that most participants who wanted to join the parade are gay.

Stoner added that groups such as Ikea have been allowed to march despite not being 100 per cent gay. Stoner says she feels discriminated against which she finds “quite distressing, especially coming from Mardi Gras, which is all about making a stand against discrimination.

Co-chair for Mardi Gras, Steph Sands has declined to comment.
